Major General Shavendra Silva assumed office as the 53rd Army chief-of-staff at the Army headquarters earlier today (Jan 10).
Major General Niyshshanka Ranawana, Director General General Staff, Major General Wajira Palihakkara, Director General Financial Management and several Senior Officers were present at the occasion.
The newly-appointed Army chief-of-staff has been awarded several accolades in recognition of his services towards the country.
He joined the Army in 1984 and rose on to the ranks of Second Lieutenant and Major General before becoming the Chief-of-staff, the second highest position in the Army.
Maj. Gen. Silva is a graduate from the Harvard University and holds an MSc in Philosophy and in Defence and Strategic Studies in India.
