A suspect has been arrested at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) in Katunayake for attempting to illegally smuggle gold out of the country, local media reported.
The 48-year-old, from Katugastota, was arrested by customs officers when he was preparing to board a flight to Mumbai, India. Almost 600 grams of gold worth around Rs 3 million was found concealed in the suspect’s shoes, according to reports.
