All passengers arriving in Sri Lanka from Italy, South Korea and Iran will have to undergo a 15-day mandatory quarantine period, the Health Ministry said today.
This was announced at a media briefing held by Health Minister Pavithra Wanniarachchi after a meeting of the National Action Committee established to respond to the Coronavirus.
Director General of Health Services Dr Anil Jasinghe noted that Italy, South Korea and Iran were the countries which are reporting the largest number of people who had been infected outside China.
He said that health authorities were currently monitoring 1954 persons who had come to Sri Lanka from countries that have a severe outbreak of the virus. Accordingly, they were monitoring 679 Sri Lankans, 747 Chinese, 380 persons who had come from Korea and 148 others.
The largest number of those being monitored were currently residing in the Colombo Municipal Council City limits. There are 677 such persons being monitored inside CMC limits.
