Mannar Magistrate T Sarvanaraja has ordered the excavation activities on the Mannar mass grave to be temporarily halted until further notice.
The order was issued to a group of specialist medical officers who were carrying out excavations on the site today (Mar 08).
The carbon dating report which determined the age of six bone samples after being sent to the US for testing purposes was submitted to the Magistrate yesterday (March 07).
"Public representatives and specialist medical officers who were involved in the excavations will attend a special meeting that would be presided by the Mannar Magistrate after March 20," Judicial Medical Officer Saminda Rajapaksa said adding that the future measures would be determined during the meeting.
As of now, 342 bone fragments and 330 skeletons have been exhumed and are stored in the Mannar Magistrates Court. The remains also include those of 30 children.
