The air traffic in Mattala Aiport has seen a boost in recent weeks owing to the ongoing reconstruction work at the Katunayake International Airport.
According to the Chief Aiport Managaer at Mattala, Upul Kalansuriya more than 80 flights have passed through the aiport
With the ongoing runway repair work at Katunayake, the Beijing and Shanghai-bound SriLankan Airlines flights have been diverted from the Bandaranaike International Airport to the Mattala Airport for two-and-a-half hours before continuing to China.
This situation is due to scheduling problems resulting from the closure of the BIA runway from 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.Only flights from China have been diverted to Mattala.
