A meeting of ruling party MPs is scheduled to take place today (Jan 2) at the Presidential Secretariat under the patronage of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa.
The final decision on the nomination of the Leader of the house and the position of the Chief Government Whip are to be decided at this meeting.
Accordingly Minister Dinesh Gunawardena was nominated as leader of the house while Mahinda Amaraweera was appointed as the Chief government whip.
Meanwhile, the new Parliamentary session is to commence under the patronage of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa.
A special seat for the President with the President's flag is to be placed in Parliament. In addition a separate seat recognising the Opposition leader is also to be set aside.
The 8th seat is to be set aside for former premiere Ranil Wickremesinghe.
