Met. Department continues to forecast heavy showers across the country

The Western, Sabaragamuwa, Southern, and Central provinces are expected to receive heavy falls upto 100 mm over the next 24 hours, the Department of Meteorology said.

Issuing a weather advisory, the weather authority predicted that showers or thundershowers will occur in the Uva and Eastern Provinces, and also the Vavuniya, Mullaitivu and Anuradhapura districts after 2 pm today (Sept 17).

Accordingly, the Meteorological Department has requested the public to take the following precautions during this time period ;

• Seek shelter, preferably indoors and never under trees.
• Avoid open areas such as paddy fields, tea plantations and open water bodies during thunderstorms.
• Avoid using wired telephones and connected electric appliances during thunderstorms.
• Avoid using open vehicles, such as bicycles, tractors and boats etc.
• Beware of fallen trees and power lines.
• For emergency assistance contact the local disaster management authorities.
