The International Organisation of Migration (IOM) for Sri Lanka has said it has allocated funds worth AUD 6.5 million (Rs 779.2 million) to bring back Sri Lankan asylum seekers from India.
IOM Chief-of-Mission to Sri Lanka Sarat Dash had made these remarks during a meeting with Northern Governor Suren Raghavan at the Governor's Secretariat today (Aug 2).
The IOM official had lamented that the process of bringing back Sri Lankan refugees from India has been delayed due to co-ordination issues between the two countries, a Governor's office spokesman told Times Online.
Accordingly, the Governor had stated that he would hold talks with Foreign Ministry officials and other relevant parties to bring back these people in due course.
During the discussion, Mr. Raghavan had emphasized that sufficient facilities must be provided to these refugees upon their return to the country.
