Minister Ranawaka calls for eleven amendments to the constitution

News

Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka has urged that eleven amendments must be made to the constitution in order to establish a common law in the country.

Addressing an event in Pandura today (Aug 21), the Minister pointed out that these recommendations have been discussed in Parliament and need to be passed with a majority.

“The duty of the President, Prime Minister, and Opposition Leader is to eradicate fear and suspicion from the people,” the Minister of Megapolis and Western Development said.

He pointed out that the steps taken by India to claim Kashmir as a part of their territory and apply a common law could be considered as an example to Sri Lanka.

Mr. Ranawaka stressed that the failure to establish a common law will result in communal divisions. “We can’t fight a communal war for another 30 years,” he said.
