More than 5,000 graduate teachers will be recruited to national schools this year, Education Minister Akila Viraj Kariyawasam told Times Online.
He added that an additional 3,500 teachers will also be recruited in order to ensure the smooth functioning of the 13-year compulsory academic activities of the students.
Mr. Kariywasam also noted that the Education Ministry has spent Rs 35 million so far in order to establish mini-laboratories in secondary schools.
The Minister pointed out that these projects are being implemented under the government's 'Nearest school is the best school' programme.
