More than 60,000 Police officers including nine DIG's are to be deployed for election duty, as a part of heightened security measures for the Presidential poll.
Police Spokesman SSP Ruwan Gunasekara said that officers attached to the Police Anti-Riot Squad will be on duty during the 48-hour Silent Period which began today.
All campaigning activities for presidential candidates will be prohibited during this period, and failure to adhere to these laws could result in imprisonment, the spokesman warned.
He said that additional road blocks too have been set-up to ensure security for Saturday’s election.
