Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) National List parliamentarian A H M Fowzie has been expelled from the party with immediate effect.
SLFP General Secretary Dayasiri Jayasekara said this decision had been made following a disciplinary inquiry against the parliamentarian.
Party sources said SLFP leader Maithripala Sirisena is tipped to fill Mr. Fowzie's void in Parliament.
Mr. Fowzie had supported ruling party presidential candidate Sajith Premadasa at the presidential election, while the SLFP supported his opponent Gotabaya Rajapaksa.
Several other party members including SLFP Patron Chandrika Kumaratunga are facing a disciplinary probe for supporting Premadasa at the poll.
Sirisena, who was President during the election, had adopted a neutral stance until the end of the poll.
