The case filed against MP Kumara Welgama where the former Minister of Transport was accused of causing an unlawful loss to the government by appointing a Deputy Chairman to the Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) contrary to the Transport Act, has been fixed for support on April 02.
Colombo Fort Magistrate Lanka Jayaratne had ordered the witness statements representing the accused to be submitted on April 02.
It is alleged that the former minister had unlawfully appointed L. A. Wimalaratne as the Deputy Chairman of the SLTB on June 23, 2010 when Welgama was the Transport Minister.
Further it is claimed that the former minister had paved the way to pay Rs. 3.2 million to the Deputy Chairman as his salary and other benefits, causing an unlawful loss to the government.
