Deputy Minister and UNP Gampaha District MP Ranjan Ramanayake and Joint Opposition Group’ s Kandy District MP Mahindananda Aluthgamage assaulted each other near the MPs lift on the Second |Floor of the Parliament building today.
They also abused each other in filthy language, eye witnesses said.
MP Ramanayaka had been waiting to get into the lift and was enraged in conversation with JVP leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake when MP Aluthgamage had alighted from the lift.
The two had got into an argument after MP Ramanayaka made allegations against the UPFA MP over the abuse of a state vehicle when he was a minister. Then things got personal when the UNP MP brought up the issue of MP Aluthgamage’s wife with whom he is involved in an acrimonious divorce case.
MPs Anural Kumara Dissanayake, Kumara Welgama and Ranjith Zoysa who were present had to intervene to pull them part.
