Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa has urged the public to support the government's efforts to restore the economic stability of the country adding that it was through the peoples´ support that they were able to end the war and requested the public to extend that same support in order to keep the country out of the present economic crisis it faces.
The Prime Ministers Media Division in a press release issued today (Nov 25) which includes the text of a speech delivered by Mr Rajapaksa said ¨This is the last opportunity we have , if our efforts fail this country will end up like Greece.¨
The release noted that Rajapaksa after having assumed office as Prime Minister had repeatedly called for a general election in order to establish a stable government.
However, the UNP which had instead called for a Presidential election had not supported Rajapaksa's call for a general election although the JVP had done so, the statement said.
The release therefore stated that Rajapaksa had requested the public to stand by the government during its "interim period".
