Several hundred persons took to the streets on the main Sooriyawewa Town earlier today to protest over the use of the Mattala Rajapaksa International Airport (MRIA) as a granary, police said. The protesters included several members of the local councils and many shops in the town also put up shutters in apparent support of the protesters. It is the second such protest inside the past 48 hours and police claimed that they were politically motivated.
