President Maithripala Sirisena, in terms of powers vested in him as the President of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka under Emergency Regulations No. 01 of 2019, has taken steps to declare the organizations National Thawheed Jammath (NTJ) and Jamathei Millathu Ibraheem (JMI) as banned in Sri Lanka.
According to a statement from the President's Media, all activities of those organizations will be banned and property belonging to these organisations will be seized by the government.
Steps are being taken to ban other extremist organizations operating in Sri Lanka, under Emergency Regulations.
