Naval personnel in Mullikulam in the North Western Naval Command arrested three fishermen who engaged in illegal fishing activities in the sea area off Palugahathurai on October 23, Navy said. A dinghy and 2 monofilament nets used for fishing activities were also taken into naval custody. The arrested fishermen and items were produced to Assistant Directorate of Fisheries, Puttalam for onward action.
On receipt of information, naval personnel attached to SLNS Mahanaga located in Panama belonging to the South Eastern Naval Command, in coordination with Akkaraipaththu and Samanthurai Fisheries Inspectors, apprehended two suspects who were trading unauthorized fishing nets in the general areas of Akkaraipaththu and Samanthurai yesterday.The apprehended persons along with fishing nets were handed over to Sammanthurai Fisheries Inspector for further investigations.
