Three navy vessels have been deployed from Trincomalee and Hambantota to assist a Panama based vessel in distress in the Eastern waters off Sangamankanda point, Navy said.
A fire has erupted in the fuel transporting vessel heading to India from Kuwait.
There are reportedly 24 crew members on board the vessel. The navy stated that 23 of them are confirmed to be unhurt.
The navy vessels are still on route to the vessel in distress. The Sri Lanka Air Force meanwhile, has also deployed a surveillance aircraft to track the vessel in distress.
