Naval personnel attached to SLNS Lankapatuna recovered 2.6kg of gun powder – low explosives concealed in the general area of Ullackalie Lagoon in Trincomalee on Sunday The explosives are suspected to be hidden for the use of illegal fishing or poaching activities later.
On the same day naval troops attached to SLNS Ranweli recovered four non-electric detonators, two gelignite sticks and four pieces of detonator codes hidden under a coconut tree in the general area of Polmalkuda in Pulmudai.
During a search operation carried out by the naval personnel attached to SLNS Vijayaba in co-ordination with the Kuchchaveli Police on last Saturday were able to recover explosives including 249g of TNT, 30g of black powder, 9 non-electronic detonators, 13 feet long safety fuse and two banned fishing nets (Thangus) concealed in a scrub in Erakkandy Lagoon area. Moreover a suspect along with a fishing net was apprehended on the same day in the general area of Erakkandy. The suspect and the belongings were handed over to the Kuchchaveli Police for onward legal action.
