The new fines imposed on traffic violations will come into effect from today.
Accordingly, while the traffic fines have been amended, the list of 23 traffic violations has now been increased to 33.
Police Media Spokesman Superintendent of Police Ruwan Gunasekara told local media offences such as driving an emergency vehicle without a license, driving special services vehicles without licenses, driving vehicles transporting chemical or hazardous content, driving a vehicle without a valid license, driving vehicles that emit copious amounts of smoke, failure to wear seat belts, and vehicles that emit loud sounds will be slapped a fine of Rs. 1,000.
The violation of road rules and traffic signals, failing to heed police orders and the lack of a vehicle emission test will result in a Rs.1000 fine.
Vehicle instructors driving without a learner license will be fined Rs. 2,000.
Overcrowded buses will be fined Rs 500 while lorry’s, motorbikes and motor tricycles transporting excessive goods or persons will be fined Rs.500 .
