Extending the current Colombo- Vavuniya train services further to Kankesanthurai (KKS), Jaffna, a new railway line named ‘Sri Devi' was inaugurated today, the Railways Department said.
General Manager of Railways Department Dilantha Fernando told Times Online that another extension of railway services into its daily schedule is to meet the increasing demand of public transport services, especially for those who travel from the North to the South frequently.
“As of now, we have attached 11 compartments that include air-conditioned, second class and third class for the convenience of passengers,” General Manager Fernando said.
Accordingly, the new Sri Devi train will leave from Colombo Fort at 3.55 pm and will reach Kankesanthurai at 10.16 pm while Colombo bound train that leaves from KKS at 3.45 am will reach Colombo Fort at 10.24 pm.
