Nine Lankans arrested in India

News

Nine Sri Lankans, including a woman, were arrested by Thoothukudi district ‘Q’ Branch police on Monday.

Sources said the Sri Lankan nationals were in possession of passports, but had overstayed.

They were staying in a private lodge in Tiruchendur for a week and an agency had cheated them of a huge sum of money promising lucrative jobs in New Zealand.

Police said each of the arrested persons had a visiting tourist visa, which expired by July.

A few days ago, five Sri Lankans were arrested by Kanniyakumari district ‘Q’ Branch police.

Following interrogation, the police had learnt that nine more Sri Lankan nationals were staying in Tiruchendur. Thoothukudi ‘Q’ Branch police handed over these nine Lankans to their Kanyakumari counterpart to continue their investigation. (The Hindu)
