The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) which has been signed by the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) and United National Party (UNP) today restricted their respective parliamentarians from cross overing between two parties during the period of National government. It said the concept of the national government will be put in place for atleast two years but may be extended further if necessary circumstances arise. The four page document based on the mandate given at the presidential election in January this year where president Maithripala Sirisena took the office. The newly appointed UNP led government will be in the process of implementing them. On constitutional reforms it says the 19th Amendment will be implemented throughly with setting up of Constitutional Assembly’ converting the whole parliament as decision making bodies on national affairs. After the prime minister Ranil Wickeremasinghe was sworn in today morning, the Acting General Secretary of SLFP Duminda Dissanayake and UNP General Secretary Kabir Hasheem signed the MoU.

The Supreme Court today refused interim relief in an application filed by President’s Counsel Senaka Walgampaya seeking an Order from the Supreme Court compelling the President to appoint judges to fill the existing vacancies in the Court Of Appeal.
The deadline for online applications to the 2024 G.C.E. Advanced Level (A/L) Examination has been extended until July 12, the Department of Examinations said.
