The Education Ministry today denied media reports which claimed that it planned to open schools for students in stages beginning from June 1.
Issuing a statement, the ministry stated that certain print media and web sites had published reports claiming that the ministry had instructed principals, teachers and other staff had been instructed to report to work from May 11, and that it plans to open schools first to Advanced Level and Ordinary Level classes, followed by classes for all students from June 1. "Such reports are baseless and the Education Ministry Secretary has not issued such instructions to any provincial education director or heads of any other education institution," the ministry asserted.
The Education Ministry further said that a decision on when schools will be opened and how it will be done will be taken in due course based on recommendations from the Health Ministry and Government policy.
