Minister of Power and Renewable Energy, Ranjith Siyambalapitiya has assured the public that there will be no more power cuts from today (18) as the Norochcholai coal power plant was now fully operational.
Issuing a media release, the Ministry of Power and Renewable Energy quoted the Minister as stating that stages 2 and 3 of the Norochcholai power plant had become operational as of midnight yesterday, adding 600 Mega Watts to the national grid.
Minister Siyambalapitiya further apologized to the public over the inconvenience caused to them by the island-wide power cuts which were imposed this week.
He added that he hoped to present the facts regarding the power outage to Parliament on March 23 and also present a set of special recommendations aimed at preventing such situations arising in the future.
