A notorious underworld criminal identified as Ihalagamage Dharshana was arrested in Panagoda today (Jan 01) over the possession of a live hand grenade and 60 grams of heroin.
The arrest was made while the suspect was travelling in his car in close proximity to the Army camp in Panagoda.
Investigations have revealed that the suspect is a close associate of organised criminal gang leader, Sinharage Amal Chaminda alias 'Anju'.
It has also come to light that the suspect had engaged in heroin trade on behalf of another criminal gang leader by the name of Dhanushka Thotuwila alias 'Saima'.
Police said that the suspect will be produced before the Homagama Magistrates Court today.
