The National Police Commission (NPC) says they have not approved the transfer of Kurunegala deputy inspector general (DIG) of police Kithsiri Jayalath, NPC official said.
Acting Secretary of the NPC, Nishantha Weerasinghe speaking to Times Online said that while a list of names was put forward for transfers, DIG Jayalath's name was not approved from that list.
Mr. Weerasinghe said further that approval had not been granted for his transfer and that no such decision had been taken.
DIG Jayalath is alleged to have fabricated a story which is claimed to have led to the arrest of Kurunegala teaching hospital doctor Mohamed Shafi who was granted bail recently.
