NPP Presidential candidate Dissanayake pledges to focus on uniting communities

National People’s Power (NPP) presidential candidate Anura Kumara Dissanayake has said that he would focus on uniting all communities to develop human resources in the country if voted into power.

Dissanayake, the leader of the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP), was nominated as the presidential candidate of the NPP alliance which comprises of 28 other civic and political groups led by the JVP, during a rally at the Galle Face Green today (Aug 18).

During his address, the JVP leader stated that a new political force in the country comprising professionals and the general public which demands clean politics, has been represented through the NPP alliance.

"Today, bribery, corruption and fraud are rampant in politics. A group of uncivilized politicians are now shouting political slogans. We promise the people to to build a clean political enviornment instead of dirty politics," he said.

Dissanayake stressed the need for a new economic policy which gives priority to domestic production and opens new avenues for the development of human resources while also uplifting the lives of those in the agriculture and fisheries industries.

He also ensured to build a healthy society by removing all divisions in the country. "Several divisions have been created in the country. Divisions have been created based on language, culture, and even gender," he pointed out.
