The National People's Power (NPP) will organise election rallies for its presidential candidate Anura Kumara Dissanayake using digital transmission technology to address Sri Lankans living overseas.
“We have organized rallies to address Sri Lankans living in Europe, Middle East, and other countries, through Skype,” Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) General Secretary Vijitha Herath told a news conference today (Oct 11).
The NPP movement is led by the JVP and comprises 28 groups including political parties and civic groups.
Herath told reporters that Presidential candidate Dissanayake will take part in 50 rallies during his six-week-long election campaign across the country.
“We hope to reveal the manifesto on October 26 at Water’s Edge in Battaramulla,” he announced.
However, the JVP General Secretary said that the candidate’s policy for each sector would be revealed separately before the manifesto is revealed in its entirety.
As such the education, health and environment policies would be revealed on October 14, 15 and 17 respectively, he said.
Dissanayake, will contest for the November 16 vote, under the symbol of a compass.“The compass is a symbol which is responsible to the country and a guide to the people,” Herath remarked.
