The number of COVID-19 patients in the country crossed the 2000 mark this evening (24) with the discovery of three more patients.
Accordingly, the number of COVID-19 cases in the country now stand at 2001.
The latest three patients are from the Sri Lanka Navy who are at the Iyakkachchi quarantine centre. Earlier in the day, 11 COVID-19 patients were also reported; all of them returnees from the US undergoing quarantine.
A total of 40 COVID-19 patients were reported yesterday. Eleven of those were also returnees from the US while the other 29 were merchant seamen who had come from Mumbai, India.
The total number of recoveries from the disease also rose to 1562 today while 428 others are still undergoing hospital treatment.
