An individual who had drugged a woman before robbing her if her jewellery and cash on a bus heading from Kurunegala to Trincomalee has been arrested by the police today (Aug 11).
The suspect is believed to have offered a drink mixed with a narcotic before stealing cash worth Rs 129,000 and jewellery worth Rs 550,000 from the woman.
Passengers who noticed that the woman had fallen unconcious after consuming the drink, had immediately arrested the suspect and handed him over to the Kantale police.
Police have identifed the suspect as a resident of Medirigiriya. He is due to be produced before the Kantale courts tomorrow.
