One person was killed and five others suffered injuries after they were attacked by wasps in Kuda Kivula, Anamaduwa yesterday (15).
The deceased has been identified as a 65-year-old trader who sold fish from his motorbike. He was a father of two. The victim had been selling fish in the Kuda Kivula area when a nearby wasp nest was suddenly disturbed. witnesses claimed swarms of wasps descended and stung the victim, resulting in him falling into a nearby ditch.
Area residents said bystanders who witnessed the attack tried in vain to rescue the victim. Five of those who tried to help the victim were themselves stung.
The injured were admitted to the Kottukatchchiya Hospital. The fish trader was transferred to the Puttalam Hospital due to his condition being serious. He however, died upon admission.
