The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) informed court today (Aug 5) one more individual is yet to be arrested over the killings of two businessmen in Rathgama earlier this year.
During a hearing before Galle Magistrate Harshana Kekunuwela, the CID said that the suspect is believed to have fled the Rathgama area following the incident.
Meanwhile, 17 suspects who were arrested in connection with the killings have been further remanded until August 19. Among the suspects are 15 police officers attached to the Southern Police Special Investigations unit, a forest ranger and a Wildlife officer.
The suspects have been accused of abducting, killing and burning the bodies of two businessmen identified as Asela Manjula Kumara and Rasith Chinthaka on January 23.
