While the filling of the Moragahakanda Reservoir has already begun, several species of wildlife deprived of habitat land are now fleeing the area.
An operation by the Wildlife COnservation Department has been launched to rescue the animals and to release them else where.
The Morahakanda project is said to be a major to boost livelihoods and agriculture of those in the area. However environmentalists have warned that animals will be deprived of a habitat spanning tens of thousands of acres of the Wasgamuwa National Wildlife Park and a part of the Elahera Giritale Wildlife Sanctuary due to the Moragahakanda Scheme.
