Opp. Leader Rajapaksa to be appointed as Prime Minister

News

Opposition Leader Mahinda Rajapaksa will be appointed as Prime Minister tomorrow (Nov 21), his spokesman Rohan Weliwita told Times Online.

Accordingly, Rajapaksa who will function as Prime Minister of the caretaker cabinet until the general election, is expected to be sworn in at 1 pm before assuming office at around 3 pm.

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe today said he would resign from his position to allow newly elected President Gotabaya Rajapaksa to form a new government.

His decision came in the wake of ruling party presidential candidate Sajith Premadasa's defeat at the presidential election last week.
