This is after Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe that he would be stepping down from his post, in a move he said was done out of respect for democracy and the people’s mandate.

Wickremesinghe is expected to officially hand over his resignation to President Gotabaya Rajapaksa today, after ruling party presidential candidate Sajith Premadasa’s defeat at the poll.

Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa who was serving as Opposition Leader will be sworn in as Prime Minister today.
