Six persons involved in the robbery of the award of Dr Lester James Peiris and a mobile phone on the day of his funeral have been arrested, Police said.
Police Spokesman SP Ruwan Gunasekara said five of the persons were members of an organised group robbing from funeral houses of well known personalities and businessmen.
SP Gunasekera said that CCTV footage shows three persons getting off a three-wheeler and thereafter taking away the award. Two others who helped had arrived by bus.
He said a mobile phone stolen from the house had been sold to a person in Nawalapitiya and he too was arrested
