The 17th Commander of the Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF), Air Chief Marshal Sumangala Dias ceremonially handed over command of the Sri Lanka Air Force to Air Marshal Sudarshana Pathirana, this morning (2) at the Air Force Headquaters (AFHQ).
The outgoing Commander was accorded a Guard of Honour by the Colour Wing of the SLAF. After which the outgoing Commander addressed the entire Air Force for the very last time. At the conclusion of the ceremony, the outgoing Commander handed over the ceremonial baton symbolising the change of command in the Sri Lanka Air Force. The ceremony was attended by members of the Air Force Board of Management, officers and other ranks at AFHQ and SLAF Station Colombo.

My memory takes me back to 1979, to a moment etched in time when a strikingly tall and impeccably dressed military officer, a Master in charge of Cadeting at Prince of Wales College commanding a guard of honour presented to President J.R. Jayawardene by the cadets of 3CCC, consisted of Ananda, Nalanda and Prince of Wales Cadet platoons at the Prince of Wales College grounds.
An American national, who had been staying in Sri Lanka for nearly ten months without a valid visa while using a Sinhala name under his American passport, was arrested by the Tourist Police of the Kandy.
