Acting on a tip-off, a person transporting 1379 kilograms of turmeric along the Mannar-Shanthipuram main road was arrested yesterday (7), Mannar police said.
It has been revealed that the stock of turmeric has been smuggled in to the country from India via sea. The suspect and the stock of turmeric along with the lorry used to transport the contraband have been taken in to custody by the police.
Steps have been taken to present the suspect (42), a resident of the Uppukulam area, to Mannar court, the police said.
