Over 5000 tons of flood waste removed

Over 5000 tons of waste that had accumilated in several areas of the Western province including Kolonnawa due to the recent floods have been removed during the past seven days, the Government said. 

The Government said 5440 tons of waste that had accumilated in these areas have been disposed of during this week-long period while another 2000 tons are still to be disposed. 

The waste was disposed in a combined operation with cooperation from the Sri Lanka Army, Civil Security Force, Western Provincial Council, Local Government Institutions, Department of Agrarian Services, and Land Reclamation and Development Corporation. 

As a further 2000 tons of waste was yet to be disposed Minister of Provincial Councils and Local Government, Faizer Mustafa had informed Cabinet that the combined programme has been extended till June 12.
