Election monitor, People’s Action for Free and Fair Elections (PAFFREL) says it has commenced social media monitoring since yesterday (Oct 17).
PAFFREL Executive Director Rohana Hettiarachchi said this would be this first time that PAFFREL would monitor social media.
Two teams would be appointed for this purpose, and will be tasked with identifying hate speech, fake news, and misinterpretation of statements.
Such incidents will be reported to the Election Commission for relevant action, Mr. Hettiarachchi noted.
