Parliament proceedings temporarily halted due to uproar
Parliamentary proceedings were suspended for 10 minutes a short while ago due to the unruly behavior of some MPs.
The incident occurred after Speaker Karu Jayasuriya informed that Parliamentarians from the Jathika Nidahas Peramuna (JNP) cannot act as an independent party in Parliament.
The announcement drew angry protests by MPs representing the 'Joint Opposition' (JO) in Parliament including JNP Leader Wimal Weerawansa and Mahajana Eksath Peramuna (MEP) Leader Dinesh Gunawardena. Accordingly, the Speaker was forced to suspend proceedings briefly due to the uproar.
