Update : Court orders to submit documents of Gotabhaya's passport, NIC

News

Update : The Appeal Court today (Sept 30) instructed four respondents to submit documents on the passport and National Identity Card of Presidential candidate Gotabhaya Rajapaksa.

Among the respondents were the Controller General of the Immigration and Emigration Department, Commissioner General of the Department for Registration of Persons, and the Ministers of Public Administration, and Internal Affairs.

The order was issued when the petition filed by civil activists Professor Chandragupta Thenuwara and Gamini Viyangoda against the Sri Lankan citizenship of Rajapaksa had been taken up before court.

The petitioners are seeking a court order declaring that Mr. Rajapaksa had not lawfully obtained his Sri Lankan citizenship.

A three-member judge bench of Justices Yasantha Kodagoda, Arjuna Obeysekera, and Mahinda Samayawardana, ordered the case to be taken up for further hearing on October 2.
