A special discussion chaired by Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe had taken place today (May 02) regarding the need to formulate a national policy on the arrival of of foreign nationals in the country as religious teachers.
During the meeting, emphasis was drawn on several foreign lecturers who taught Islamic subjects at several institues without possessing a valid visa.
Accordingly, Minister of Home and Internal Affairs Vajira Abeywardena has issued directives to the Immigration and Emigration Department and the relevant authorities to be mindful of such lectures.
The meeting with the Prime Minister was attended by Minister Abeywardena, and Minister of Muslim Religious Affairs Abdul Haleem.
