Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has scheduled a special meeting today (Nov 16) with Election Commission Chairman Mahinda Deshapriya to inquire about the situation in the North.
The meeting comes in the wake of certain complaints stating that voters in the Northern Province had been obstructed from exercising their franchise in a peaceful manner, an official at the Prime Minister's office said.
Yesterday, police had taken steps to remove certain unauthorised roadblocks in the Palaly and Palai areas in Jaffna following complaints received to that effect.
Voting got underway at 7 am today and will end at 5 pm.
