Poacher caught with over 100 traps, wild boar carcass

One suspected poacher was arrested today during a raid conducted by officers from the Hambantota office of the Department of Wildlife Conservation (DWC) in the Kadawara Wewa Reserve in Lunugamwehera. Wildlife officers also seized over 100 traps along with the carcass of a wild boar which had got caught in one of the traps. 

The arrested suspect is a 23-year-old resident from Mattala. He's due to be produced before the Tissamaharama Magistrate's Court. 

Wildlife officers added that poaching was continuing on a large scale in the area, despite the intense drought situation. They have urged members of the public to report any information they may have with regard to poaching activities.
