Police Headquarters today (Nov 25) instructed police officers to strictly enforce the law against those who are involved in vandalising street name boards.
The directive came after the Panadura (South) Police Division received complaints against the removal of street name boards printed in Tamil, Police Spokesman SSP Ruwan Gunasekara said.
He noted that police officers have been instructed to increase their patrols to prevent incidents that "obstruct peace and harmony among communities".
Further, senior police officers have been instructed to immediately investigate the complaints to arrest the suspects and produce them before court, SSP Gunasekara stressed.
