Police nab key female drug trafficker in Hambantota
A female suspect alleged to be the ringleader of a heroin racket in the Ambalantota area has been arrested by police. The 58-year-old suspect, known by the alias "Loku Amma," was taken into custody with 60 miligrams of heroin and Rs.868,680 in cash which police suspect she had earned from distributing heroin.
Police said they had used laid a trap for the suspect where an undercover officer had posed as a buyer.
Police say that the woman had also been arrested on several previous occasions on charges of possession and distribution of heroin and had even spent several years in prison after being convicted on drugs charges. She had also escaped from police custody on one occasion.
Police said that despite numerous arrests and time spent in prison, the suspect had continued to engaged in heroin trafficking.
The alleged drug trafficker is due to be produced before the Hambantota Magistrate's Court today (20).
