The Police are carrying out investigations into two complaints regarding election violence, Police Spokesman Ruwan Gunasekara said today (Oct 4).
Gunasekara told a news conference that among the complaints were an assault while erecting a banner in Maharagama and the damaging of three hoardings of presidential candidates in Maradana.
The Police have also launched investigations into two complaints into the violation of election laws.
These complaints have been filed against the promotion of Presidential candidates through digital hoardings in Narahenpitiya and Welikada.
The Election Commission recently warned that promoting presidential candidates through digital hoardings on the roadside, and at cinemas is considered to be an offence.
At present, 493 police operation centres have been set-up in each police division to accept complaints on election violence or law violations.
A police team headed by Deputy Inspector General Sarath Peiris too has been deployed to the Election Secretariat, the Police Spokesman added.
The Presidential election is scheduled to be held on November 16.
